The initial design of the MIDSUMMER PLACE Shopping Centre in Milton Keynes was by architects Derek Walker, Stuart Mosscrop and Christopher Woodwark. The initial intention of the project was to build the largest shopping center in the world, with open and easily accessible areas, giving priority to horizontal construction over vertical construction. An extension was carried out at the beginning of the 21st century, designed by GMW Architects of London.
Its minimalist design and public spaces, in keeping with the characteristics of modernist architecture, led English Heritage to apply to the Ministry of Culture of England in 2008 for classification as a Listed Building II.
